Dr. Conti-O’Hare has been a registered nurse for over 20 years with significant experience in
clinical, administrative, teaching and research. Her major areas of expertise are addictions,
psychiatric and holistic nursing. She received a baccalaureate degree from the State University
of New York at Stony Brook, an MSN in Nursing Administration from Sacred Heart University and a
Ph.D. from Adelphi University. Presently she is Board Certified by the American Nurses
Credentialing Center as an Advanced Practice Nurse in Psychiatric/Mental Health. Her other
clinical qualifications include Certified Addictions Registered Nurse, Advanced Practice
Holistic Nurse and New York State Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor.
In the past, Dr. Conti-O’Hare has served as adjunct nursing faculty at NYU, Adelphi University,
Pace University, Farmingdale University, St. Joseph’s College and the New York College for the
Health Professions. She has lectured nationally and internationally on therapeutic use of self,
the addicted client, patient centered care and alternative nursing therapies.
She is the author of numerous articles and the book. “The Nurse as Wounded Healer: From Trauma
to Transcendence” published by Jones and Bartlett (2002). She has taught also writing skills to
health professionals and has edited scholarly manuscripts
For over 2 years Dr. Conti-O’Hare has worked with impaired professionals for the Statewide
Peer Assistance Program for Nurses (SPAN). She received an Award of Recognition for her
contribution to the Nursing Spectrum Ambassador Program 2000-2001 and Nurse of Excellence
for 2002 at Southside Hospital, Bay Shore, NY. At present, Dr. Conti-O’Hare is in private
practice as a consultant, educator and writer.
